Wednesday, April 29, 2009Ballast Tips
Do you notice that the lights in your grow light system are starting to flicker? Perhaps they take a few minutes to turn on our illuminate fully. It may be time to replace your ballast for your grow light system. Even the highest quality ballast will, over time, need to be replaced. The ballasts work hard and produce a lot of heat just like a car engine and over time, that heats reduces the ballast ability to produce correctly. When you notice the above behaviors, that may be a sign of an ageing ballast, but always make sure to check the bulbs first and you'll be keeping your grow light system in peak condition

Wednesday, April 22, 2009Unprecedented Cold Weather StrikesJust last weekend, a "freak" snow storm hit the Rockies and parts of the great plains dropping anywhere from 1-5' of snow in certain areas. Friday, April 10, 2009Maximize your Grow Lights
One suggestion we can make to maximize the grow lights you are using is to invest in a high quality grow light reflector. These function by taking the normally wasted emitted light from the back and sides of the bulbs and reflects the light downward towards the plants growing beneath. This is an excellent way to get the most bang for your dollar as opposed to wasting light. We highly suggest the following grow light reflectors.

Monday, April 6, 2009Lights and Landscaping
We know a considerable amount of people use grow light systems to start off plants to then transfer outdoors for landscaping. Landscaping is nearly all about the plants you utilize along with their locations. Just moving plants around or utilizing shrubs v. tree's can provide a multitude of effects to the look and shape of your home and/or garden. Did you know that lighting can do the same and when coupled with landscaping, can provide dramatic effects especially at night. Consider adding some residential outdoor lighting to provide additional depth and beauty at night.

Thursday, March 12, 2009LEDs - Future of Grow Lights?
We've gone over the benefits of LED grow light systems on this blog before but now more than ever, it seems like LED will be replacing nearly all other grow light systems within the next few years. The reasons are simple, mainly the savings on electricity and the long LED bulb life. One other reason LEDs are becoming increasingly popular is because they run cool as well. All of the aforemnetioned aspects are very important to grow lights as the typically are used for high amounts of time and in the past, created a lot of heat. We look forward to LEDs as a win-win for everyone. Should you feel like getting on board before the craze, check out our large selection of LED grow light systems.

Monday, March 9, 2009Replace Your Bulbs![]() If you are like me, I have a hard time remembering when to do simple things once a year, like change the batteries in all the smoke detectors or replace grow light bulbs. I think having a day that is more easily remembered such as Daylight savings time makes it much easier to do those remedial once in a blue moon tasks. So now is a good time to replace those batteries in your smoke detector but also replace those aging grow light bulbs in your grow light systems. Even the highest quality bulbs lose their potency an effectiveness over time so don't forget to replace them to maintain your indoor garden at its optimal level.

Monday, February 23, 2009Grow Light Bulbs Replacements
From time to time we hear about people enjoying indoor gardening but over time, it seems like their gardens just don't grow quite as well as they use too. We hear stories and see letters of people trying new sol, less or more water, fertilizer, etc. Yet one common area we hear is the last to be checked is the bulb within your grow light systems. Even the highest quality bulbs lose their intensity over time and need to be replaces periodically. Make sure you replace your bulbs at the stated manufacturer's intervals, typically rated in light hours. TO figure this out, just multiply the time you have your lights on by the amount of days and you'll have the number you have used so far.
