Fluorescent Lights are a Popular Choice for Commercial Lighting and Grow Light Applications

Fluorescent lighting is a very popular choice for both commercial lighting and as grow lights because they are incredibly efficient. So while they may be a little more expensive to initially purchase than incandescent, they make up for the added expense by saving on energy: they use around 80 lumens per watt, which is a big difference from incandescent lights, which often use only 10 to 12 lumens per watt. Better still, fluorescent lighting can have a lifespan of up to 30,000 hours. This number has doubled since only fifteen years ago! Great for seed starting! Or use to grow flowers, herbs and houseplants year round indoors! Use under shelves or over benches. Pre-wired, fully assembled fluorescent fixture features all metal frame construction for years of service.

Grow light Systems Often Need A Cooling System Too

For greenhouses or indoor gardening environments, grow light systems provide the adequate levels of light needed to nurture seeds and bulbs to optimum growth and vitality. It's important to have the appropriate levels of light as too much can damage and kill plants and too little can limit growth. Often times with all of the warm to hot grow lights on for long periods of time, it’s going to create a lot of extra heat when indoors. The smaller the area the hotter it is going to get. An air conditioning system and exhaust for this are two vital things to keep in mind while designing an indoor garden.

Grow Organic With a Grow Light System

Grow light systems have increased in popularity as the interest in organic foods become more mainstream. With more home gardeners, there is a need to provide quality grow lights that fit a variety of needs. Grow light systems are a great way to address the residential lighting needs for small gardeners with indoor gardening needs. From High Intensity Discharge (HID) lights, Metal Halide Bulbs and Fluorescent lights, customers can choose the grow lights that best fit their budget and growing needs. You can find quality grow light systems from your nearest gardening center, but often times, sourcing these online provides you the opportunity to compare different types, vendors and retailers to get the best price and the right type of grow light system for your situation.

Eating Healthy & Sharing with The kids

I personally grow my own vegetables with grow lights indoors for the added health benefits of organic produce, but also as a healthy hobby. Being able to grow and nurture vegetables and then find new and interesting recipes is a great way to not only keep focused on health, but it's a wonderful activity to share with kids. Children are fascinated by the miracle of live & growing plants, and it’s a wonderful learning experience for all. Also teaches them to nurture the plants and have patience as they grow tending them every day.

LEDs are the Ticket for Small Closet Gardens Over Metal Halide

LED Lights run typically 15% cooler that Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium, requiring less air cooling. These lights also have a life of about 50,000 hours-way more than other grow lights. One more feature about LED lights is the fact that they do not have ballasts. This means one less component in your system to replace. LEDs run warm not hot making them ideal for a small closet garden.

LEDs or High Pressure Sodium/Metal Halide?

Using Red and Blue LEDs put off far less lumens than High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide. This means that you will potentially need more (a lot more) fixtures and keep them super close to the plants, which is doable because they run warm not hot. LEDs and HPS/MH lights do cover the full spectrum of red and blue just the same. LEDs are not ideal for commercial lighting or large gardens but super for the average person growing a little indoor garden.
